Fishing Report - Saturday 9/10/11
The Peconic Star is the only boat on Long Island that has been fishing exclusively for Porgies since June 22. So it stands to reason that we have a pretty good handle on where they live, and when and where they are going to bite. Since the tropical storm Irene, we have managed to satisfy everyone who has fished with us with good sized Porgies and some slammer Sea Bass. Friday and today were no exception. Good fishing sent everyone home with plenty of Porgy dinners. The best thing? It just gets better and better from this point on.
Fishing Report - Sunday 6/26/11
Very uncooperative Porgies today. Everywhere we fished today we caught a few but it definitely was a tough day. The Peconic Star Express made up for it in the Fluke department! Sal Romano Sr. had a 10.50 lb fluke officially weighed in at Southold fish market. Donna Rudolph of Mattituck had a 4.11 lbr included with her usual limit. Nice to know there are still Doormat Fluke to be caught out of Greenport! The Peconic star II had a 13 lbr caught by James Spanos earlier this week on a Porgy trip. That fish was weighed in at WEGO Bait & Tackle shop in Southold.Photos from last trip
Fishing Report - Tuesday 6/21/11
Finding fluke today was easy. finding BIG fluke was a little more difficult. One of the first fluke of the day was caught by Dennis Manning of Calverton. It weighed in at 6.40 lbs. After that, lots of throwbacks and a handful of keepers until the last of the tide when we started to see some decent ones. Pete Day of Harlem, NY caught a 4.55 lbr and we saw 6 or 7 more that were legal. Less fish than we have been used to, but a spectacular day to be out on the water.
A reminder that the Peconic Star II will start Porgy & Sea bass fishing tomorrow at 7:30am. The Peconic Star Express will take over the 8:00am Fluke slot till July 2nd. Call 631 875-2631 for info on evening Striped Bass trips.
Fishing Report - Friday 6/17/11
Rainy & breezy morning, but we still managed to scoop up some nice fluke. Joe Stallone of New Hyde Park decked a 7.15 lbr and his better half Marie scored a 5.70 lbr. Tom Dicker of East Islip weighed in a 7.20 lb fluke. Fast drifts, but good action.
Fishing Report - Tuesday 6/14/11
Today's big fluke was 5.15 lbs. Biggest seabass was 3.20 lbs and the biggest porgy was 2.10 lbs. Porgies caught in all areas fished today. Fares happy with mix.
Fishing Report - Monday 6/13/11
Nice weather, decent fluke fishing. At least one or two keepers for each customer. Peconic Star II will start Seabass/Porgies on Wednesday, June 22 at 7:30am. The Express will fluke fish till July 2nd at 8am, daily.
Fishing Report - Sunday 6/12/11
Decent day! Rain scared the crowds away...too bad. Those that were here all went home with a nice fluke dinner. Fair amount of throwbacks but enough legal to make it worthwhile.
Fishing Report - Saturday 6/11/11
Shelter Island lived up to its name today! 30 mph east winds, and its nice and it was nice and comfortable at Greenlawns. Wind is not a problem this time of year, we can always find a place to hide from the weather, and still catch fish! Some nice fluke today, Jimmy Chesnos of Smithtown had a 5.90lb fluke plus his limit. Not everyone caught a keeper fluke, but they were able to fish comfortably, and enjoy the action.
Fishing Report - Friday 6/10/11
No comparison to yesterdays industrial bite. Last nites storms most likely killed the morning bite. It was only at the last of the outgoing tide and the beginning of the incoming in the afternoon that their appetite returned. No limits today for a change, but the weather was faultless.
Fishing Report - Thursday 6/9/11
Good bite today. 21 fares had 34 keeper fluke up to 5 lbs. Ron Johnson of Islandia, and Paul Ras of Oceanside led the pack with the biggest fluke. Good day, best of the week! Lots of action!! Even had a showing of weakfish. Joe Stallone of New Hyde Park caught the first one of the season.a few more made the day for a few of the other folks. A cool breeze mad it nice and comfortable too!
Just a reminder that the Peconic Star Express is sold out for the Saturday trip. Sunday is still available.
